Our Story

Pet Angels Wearside opened its doors in October 2023, founded by four women brought together by one simple thing — a deep love for animals and a determination to help those who needed it most.

What started as a small, heartfelt effort quickly grew into something much bigger. In the early days, we focused on delivering pet food directly to people’s doors, ensuring no pet went hungry during difficult times. But as word spread, so did the need — and it became clear we had to do more.

To reach even more families and their beloved pets, we expanded our support into local food banks and community centres. This allowed us to extend our help further into the heart of the community, supporting those who might not otherwise be able to access us.

As we grew, so did our ambition. We began hosting dog shows and community events, not only to raise vital funds but to bring people together in celebration of the animals we all love. Along the way, we’ve built an incredible network of volunteers, met inspiring supporters, and formed meaningful partnerships with other fantastic charities.

Pet Angels Wearside is more than just a pet food bank — it’s a community built on compassion, kindness, and the belief that no pet should go without.

Meet Our Team

Our team

Thomas Packer

Trustee

I'm Thomas and I recently came onboard as a trustee here at PAWs after volunteering since 2023. My degree in business computing means I am able to support the team behind the scenes with anything computer or business based. I grew up in a household filled with numerous cats, dogs and reptiles which lead to my love for animals!

Michelle Imeson

Chair Person

My name is Michelle, I've got numerous years of experience volunteering in animal rescue and welfare alongiside Wendy. When I heard about PAWs I was keen on getting involved. I started by volunteering at dog shows (they say I'm cracking on the mic!) I grew to love PAWs and the team so much that I came onboard as a Trustee and the Chair person at Pet Angels Wearside.

Demi Leigh

Secretary

My name is Demi, I came on board as a trustee at Pet Angels Wearside because of my love for animals and passion for supporting our community. As a pet owner myself, I understand the importance of having your pet by your side especially during hard times. Nobody should have to give their pets up due to a change of circumstances or falling onto hard times!

I'm extremely passionate about mental health, having worked in the sector for over a decade, I think improving mental health in our community is vital. A great way to start is ensuring families don't need to seperate - and that includes pets!

Wendy Roke

Trustee

Hi my name is wendy and one of the trustees of Pet Angels Wearside. My passion has always been with animals, I've had them most my life. I have volunteered in rescue for a number of years and still hear stories of pets that I have helped find forever homes for.

I helped set up PAWs as too many people were having to give up their beloved pets because of the cost of living crisis.

These pets are a lifeline to most owners and your heart aches knowing that people cannot afford to feed them.

Animals are my passion and always will be and I will do what I can to help keep pets at home with their owners.
